After reading the blog and all of your encouraging words, I would like to say
“Thank You” to all those people who supported Jack and me on our exciting journey to Singapore and participation in the APRSAF18 Water Rocket Event.
It was an amazing experience being in a different country for the first time, especially as I was there representing Australia. I made new friends from countries such as The Philippines; Cambodia; Bangladesh and of course, Singapore. Even though we were all from different countries, we were still interested in many of the same things.
We were also very lucky to have the great team shirts that made us stand out from the crowd. A big thank you to OnSite Rental Group; Petro Industrial Group and Redstar for organising & sponsoring the shirts & stickers.
The competition was really well-organised, and the unexpected introduction of brain-wave powered rocket launchers added to the exciting atmosphere of the event.
No-one that I knew had used that technology before, so we all learnt something new.
After the competition, the highlight of the trip was visiting Sentosa, an island theme park off the coast of Singapore that was filled with attractions. The most exciting of these was the luge, a gravity powered go-kart ride that went down a twisting slope. Jack, Mr Lightbody & I raced each other a few times, with each of us winning at least one race.
Our breakfast with the orang-utans at Singapore Zoo was awesome, and one of the orang-utans put his finger down the back of my shirt to investigate the tag. Despite my longing to take an actual orang-utan home with me, I had to make do with one from the gift shop, as a real one wouldn’t have made it through customs!
Thank you very much to Mr Lightbody and Dr Mathers for accompanying Jack and I on this terrific adventure. You were great company and helped me to achieve the best that I possibly could in this international event. This event has further cemented my aspirations to achieve a career in science in the future.
Thank you also to all the people who supported our Space Ice Cream fundraiser & sausage sizzle. The teachers & students of St John’s Anglican College, have also cheered us on & given us encouragement every day since the team was announced. This spurred us to make our school proud. Thank you also to VSSEC for this wonderful trip. Lastly, I’d like to say a special thank you to my family & also the Ennis family for their complete support and encouragement.
